The iMac behaves identically to Computer B. I set up a third computer with the same set up as the other two (except it's an iMac). Not clear what the advantages are of these changes… The above article shows numerous ways in which Dropbox has been degraded due to changes in macOS. It also seems to be that you need to wait for a notification that will come when your computer is ready… The above article implies that Computer A has a newer version of Dropbox than Computer B despite showing the same version number in Dropbox preferences. and unless I'm misunderstanding, apparently this change is the future of Dropbox, because Dropbox's help article says "Searching through Finder won’t find all content in your Dropbox folder." and "Searching through Finder will only find online-only files or folders that have been previously accessed on your device running Dropbox for macOS." This is an extremely upsetting development. On Computer B, Dropbox can no longer search within a Finder folder. I'm not going to do it this time unless I am forced. It offers me this update, which is the source of all degradation: I signed out of Dropbox on Computer A and it let me set up Dropbox in my home directory.
